What is a monster?

Why is that word so easy to use

Why is it so quick to leave your lips

A phrase thrown around to describe anything

Anything that you deem unholy or undeserving

When you look a future in the eye and choose negligence

The hypocrisy that motivates your every action

When you refuse such a happiness and compassion

The very same thing you long for, yet you choose ignorance and apathy

The stubbornness that keeps you from seeing the humanity within

That is what a monster is.

When you beg for something so against his nature

You ask him to defy his god again,

The refusal to acknowledge his abhorrence of unholy sin.

Oh, to lack compassion for the very grief you experience

How you willingly shield your eyes from his pain,

and seek to destroy and induce the very melancholia

you are desperate to escape.

Such is the nature of a monster.

Do you know the true definition though?

a monster- something of strange or terrifying shape, that is what it means..

You use a demonizing term to flippantly label the things you do not want to understand

You mold the word to fit the outline of your prejudice,

because anything can be a monster if you’re ignorant enough.
