What is Real? by Kelley Flannery

I try to wonder where I am.

Shining stars, abnormal asteroids, and phenomenal plants all around me.

It smells as if my mom made twenty egg salad sandwiches.

The whole universe is spinning.

Will I be stuck here forever?

An obnoxious ringing and a flashing red light coming from my wrist.

I look down; it’s my fuel gauge.

Five minutes left of air.

I see a faint spaceship in the distance.

With my life hanging on by a tread,

I take a chance and drift towards it.

It is my last hope.

As I get closer, it moves farther away.

Will I make it?

My time is running out.

Three minutes left…

I hear someone calling my name.

anna, anna, anna

I look around, but no one is there?

I am almost there.

The spaceship's gleaming light gets brighter and brighter.

ANNA, ANNA, ANNA

It is getting louder and louder.

But still, no one

One minute left…

Suddenly, I feel a tremendous amount of pressure on me.

But still, no one is nearby.

I shut my eyes, hoping to reach the spaceship.

My eyes start to creak open.

Someone is there.

“It is time to get ready for school.”
