summer nights last forever

six p.m. stained with auburns, indigos

ivory clouds cast shadow puppets

as we search familiarity in the unknown

trees freckle midwest expanses

their solid trunks stand single

longing for a partner that seems to remain

on the alabaster moon

creeks gurgle over granites and slates

clear water swirls and churns clay

tadpoles revel in deep pockets of streams

insulators drown, waiting for an unknown

a modern artifact from an obsolete age

storms sob over a summer scene

pulsating entropy

wakes the gone quiet landscape
